The Katsina State Government has received a report on the possibility of reopening livestock markets in Batsari and Sheme, which were previously shut down due to security concerns.

The report was submitted by a special committee established by the government weeks ago. The committee includes representatives from security agencies, traditional rulers, political figures, and other stakeholders. Their mandate was to assess the viability of reopening the affected markets.

On Tuesday, April 8, the committee concluded its assignment and handed over its findings to Alhaji Mustapha Zubairu, who received the report on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government, Abdullahi Garba Faskari.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Alhaji Lawal Garba Faskari said they visited both Sheme and Batsari, held discussions with key stakeholders, and received strong support from local leaders and community members.

“We began in Batsari, where we were warmly received by the district head and community leaders. In Sheme, too, we enjoyed full cooperation throughout the investigation,” he said.

Receiving the report, Alhaji Mustapha Zubairu, on behalf of the Secretary to the State Government, praised the committee’s work, noting the importance of the findings to public interest. He assured that the report would be submitted to the Secretary for appropriate action regarding the reopening of the markets.
